About Scoria
Hearth : Home's closed species, the Scoria, are each carefully shaped by the Kindler to live in the Hearth.
The Kiln: Creation & Reproduction A creative god, the Kindler often crafts new Scoria eggs or even adult Scoria of their own accord. These new Scoria take their first breaths at the sacred site known as the Kiln. Scoria lack reproductive organs and genitals and thus cannot sexually reproduce. However, a group of two or three Scoria may approach the Kindler at the Kiln. If the Kindler approves of the match, they will carefully craft an egg to give to the parents. The baby Scoria that hatches will exhibit a combination of the parents' traits, but will lack horns -- though they do have forge-marks. Baby Scoria grow up quickly and are considered full adults as soon as their horns appear. Beloved of the Hearth: Tending Scoria are deeply linked to the world in which they live. In many ways, the Hearth exists to make them comfortable and happy. Typically this environmental influence is subtle. If Scoria are hungry or thirsty, the Hearth may open paths to food or water in front of them. If they are overheating, clouds may fill the sky; if they are cold, the sun may come out. With practice, however, a Scoria may learn to consciously control the Hearth, an art called Tending. They may use their link to change the weather, alter plant growth, direct animals -- an advanced Tender may even redirect rivers or raise mountains. With practice and magic, they may alter their physical forms, introducing new permanent traits onto their body. Particularly skilled Scoria may even manage a limited form of shape-shifting, in which they can change at will into a humanoid form called a gijinka. See here for more information on gijinkas. Life in the Hearth: Culture The only Scoria in existence are those on the masterlist. No other Scoria exist; there are no NPC's in this world. Thus, life in the Hearth is that which players make it. This means that if you wish for your Scoria to interact with another Scoria, you must either use another Scoria of your own or have another player agree to the interaction. If your Scoria wishes to establish a new settlement, they may do so -- but for others to inhabit that settlement, you must find other players interested in having their Scoria join theirs. |
